U11s : Inkberrow Eagles 0-2 Droitwich Spa
This was an evenly matched contest, both teams probing, neither really showing in the final third the incisive thrust to replicate last seasons competitive jousts. An early error in defence in the first half was the only thing to note, which brought about Droitwich's first penalty. This was duly despatched despite a heroic dive from Alex. The second was more lively, both teams applying more urgency, but again the spark in the final third of the pitch was missing. A second penalty was bizarrely awarded whilst a member of the Inkberrow Eagles team lay writhing in pain following a bang to the head further up the pitch. Alex relied on his feet to divert the oncoming ball before the striker could get his shot on goal, with the striker falling over his legs. Unfortunately the angle of award may not have been the best. No matter, no complaints, and again Alex got very close to saving the second goal. And that was pretty much it. Dour, the match fizzled out to a predictable ending and the team trooped off feeling a little hard done by.

U11s : Inkberrow Eagles 1-8 Broadway Utd Youth
A very different game to the one 2 weeks previous....a rejuvenated Broadway arrived with the rain soaking all in attendance. That our pitches are resilient and have fantastic drainage is on one hand a great benefit, and then on the other a challenge, as the boys needed shelter as well! Hyperthermia and trench foot could have been the outcome....In the first half, some good passing and resolute defending did not bring the reward it deserved. Broadway came in at half time 3-0 up. Inkberrow attempted to do to Broadway what they had done to us in the previous meeting this season, and early in the second half, a lovely one two between Joseph and Hadley brought just reward and a comeback could have been on. Unfortunately several slips and mistakes cost the team dear, and they were not one-sided as the weather conspired against all on the pitch. Broadway were much more decisive with their final pass and finishing, with poor old Luca called into goalkeeping duty, after Alex had had to go for shelter, drying and a hot chocolate. The team came in in good spirits despite the scoreline.

U11s : Badsey Rangers 13-5 Inkberrow Eagles
What a game. Within the first few minutes, it was obvious there were going to be goals for both sides. It just depended on who could get their noses far enough in front. Goals from Ed, Luca x2, Joseph and Tom were all beautifully put away - special mention for Luca as he has been hard on himself lately, and two better finishes you will not see all season - well done! Some great assists from Harry S. 7-4 down at half time, it felt like the team could pull back and make this more a rugby scoreline than a football one. However, in the second half Badsey just finished better. Inkberrow were never out of it. However, and it is a BIG however. It did highlight a coaching error! "Mea culpa" Mr S! Defending practice and tactics is a must over the next few weeks, together with a revision on when and where to deploy offside methodology, if at all. We have given it a good shot so far, but on reflection our sweeper deployment of last season saw a fantastic run of games with either 1 or 0 goals conceded over 7 games. So back to the drawing board....lets see how we can better contain Shipston and Stratford (1st and 2nd respectively in the league currently) whilst still providing a goal threat over the next few weeks. And so to the weekend ahead - Shipston will be arriving for an early 930am kick-off. It will be early to bed for our lads (no Xbox, PS4, Wii, iPad, etc) - staple diet of Newsnight and lights out....then cometh the morn and a new dawn....what will it herald? Come on you Eagles!
