Saturday 21st December 2013 : Under 10's : Inkberrow Eagles 0-1 Littleton Juniors
The weather forecast was for rain, but for once Accuweather was wrong and furtive glances out of the window came to nothing, and the match was on. Brisk, the clouds swept across the sky and we were blessed with sunshine before kick off. Unfortunately, we were also cursed by what the Romans had as an omen of ill portent - a bird of prey circled the pitch both before, during and after the match. And it could rightly pick over the bones of what could have been. Cohesive in approach, the team passed well, moved well, covered back well. Shots again rained in on the opposition goal. Opta stats would have gone into meltdown....30+ shots versus 4 (or thereabouts) for the visitors. But no slice of luck. The visitors goalkeeper would walk away with man of the match - several excellent stops, halting Harry S's drive for goal. And when it wasn't Harry it was Ed, or Jack, or Hadley or Harry N....and so it was. An infrequent visitor to the Under 10's crowd commented afterwards that the team was markedly better than previous matches he had attended. And so it was. Much better, positives to be taken, and much work to do to ensure that luck plays no part in the early months of 2014. All boys take heart. The fight is there, the desire is there and no lack of application. We will build on this. So to everyone, thank you in 2013 for all of your help, counsel and listening - from goalposts, to refereeing, to helping tidy up at the end. It is a team from parents to children. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Bring on 2014! Come on you Eagles!
