Under 11's : Inkberrow Eagles 0-6 Shipston Excelsior
The team, which went back to basics (quickly) in mid week, returned to the pitch renewed and with a fresh and purposeful approach. Being the team at the bottom of the league, facing the team at the top could have resulted in abject capitulation. Not this bunch. Some sterling defending coupled with a determined and battling forward line, could have seen a different scoreline at half time. That it was 3-0 to Shipston was more credit to their clinical finishing of the chances that they fashioned, than any mistakes or fault of the Inkberrow backline. In fact, great credit to the defence who were solid in their tackle, good in their anticipation of forward runs, great in their ushering out to areas of less damaging positions. Our goalkeeper continues to repel as many attacks and shots as he can and performed stoically and heroically. In the second half more of the same. But as a reminder to those doubters of last season, there are small green shoots appearing. The passing is getting more direct and one touch is developing nicely. Awareness of the 9 rather than 7 is really coming....and partial abandonment of focus on offside is allowing the team to retain its shape and balance. Well done to all. There were some really solid performances from all, and there is an optimism from this game within the group. The next game will be as equally tough against Stratford Town at home next weekend (8th November, ko 1030am), but the half term break and training should have added some extra stamina and learnings for all, for us to continue the development forward. 'Once more into the breach'....come on your Eagles!
